It has been reported that Samsung is working on a new smartphone which is said to have a pop-up front camera. According to numerous websites, this phone will be the first Samsung phone to feature a pop-up selfie mechanism. Pigtou revealed a number of renders of the upcoming Samsung smartphone. Rumour has it that this phone might be a model of the Samsung Galaxy A-series. Nonetheless, this claim has not yet been confirmed.
Pigtou, an accessories site, with the help of OnLeaks has shown an unidentified phone with the pop-up selfie camera mechanism. Along with a pop-up selfie camera and a rear fingerprint sensor, this phone is rumoured to have a triple camera array on the back. The smartphone is said to have curved edges on the rear but not a curved display. This phone has also missed out on the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Furthermore, it has been revealed by the two sources that the upcoming smartphone will have a 6.5-inch screen. In addition to this, it will measure 160.9mm in height, 77mm in width and 9.2mm in thickness. The back panel of the phone has a triple-camera with an LED. The right side has volume controls and power on/off button, while the left has the SIM slot.
The device’s base comes with a USB Type-C port flanked between speaker grille and microphone. It has been highlighted in the report that the phone might also come with IR blaster. However, even after disclosing all this information, there still aren’t enough details about this unknown phone’s hardware and other features.
In 2019, the pop-up camera was a really popular feature on smartphones. For example, devices such as the OnePlus 7 Pro, Redmi K20 Pro, Realme X, Honor 9X, OPPO Reno 2Z, and many more featured the pop-up camera.
Samsung’s own phone, the Samsung Galaxy A80, in 2019 had a pop-up camera. However, the new phone is different from the Samsung Galaxy A80. This is because the Samsung Galaxy A80 makes use of a sliding and rotating mechanism to convert its rear cameras into front-facing cameras when necessary. This is the highest-specced Galaxy A-series phone that already features a monetized camera. Therefore, it is possible that the model shown in the renders replaces this phone.
Samsung’s flagship phones have solved the front camera problem with its “Infinity-O” punch-hole displays. On the contrary, the technology required to make this is not cheap compared to pop-up cameras, and still takes up a small amount of display space. Pop-up mechanisms make phones heavier and contain more mechanical parts that could fail. However, you do get a true full-screen design.
